Lead(h)er: Full Moon & New Moon Rituals

The moon is an amplifier of polarity. Let her show you both the bright & shadow. This is not the place for your timidity or smallness, for she has no judgement. Moon rites and rituals are simply an alignment and gathering of resources and a tapping into a different kind of wisdom and medicine.

The moon has secrets and magic that can make our life’s expression more authentic and meaningful.

Her cadence and rhythm calls us to a state of being that is outside and other than the systems and pace humans have joined themselves with sometimes in folly and ignorance to our true essence. Personal burnout, resistance and stuntedness can be indicators that we’ve yielded ourselves to systems that don’t suit our needs.

Moon, however, holds secrets of another way.

She is intuitive, dual and in need of nothing to be whole. She holds the light and dark in equal fashion, not paying favor to either, for they are both needed for the ultimate goal of balance, which her entire energy is spent on maintaining. She carries within her arcane memories and echos of goddess-hood and resilience. All we need to do is humbly inquire of her with open hands and wild, untamed hearts.

Blessed and happy ritual, beloveds,

Noelle Flaherty

NEW MOON

A full moon ritual begins in the new moon phase.

The endless black sky in absence of light sets the stage.

A blank canvass begging to be drenched in your co-creative magic.

If we are rebuilding this iterate scene, moon waxing into her fullness, hung from sky, what can be left behind?

What practices, behaviors, longings and desires no longer serve the {you} that you are today, the {you} that you are intentionally becoming?

What are the creature comforts that may have been soothing, even needful before but tell stories of yesterday’s version of {you}?

See these tools, thank them for their place in your thriving and survival and release them back to where they came

from.

This may feel like a free fall.

Tools can find intimate, warm places within us.

Their place, however, is never permanence because we are ever evolving and becoming.

Now, identify what you want.

Such a simple instruction but within it lies the depth of who we are.

The question “what do I want?” is a question that can turn even the most awake soul inside out because it asks us to truly know ourselves.

Look past the facade of the construct of “us” that we present to the world and into the “us” that is our first & primal glimmer, apart from the version that others expect.

“What do I want?” asks us to go beyond the conditioning and domestication that has told us what we “should” want.

Spend some time here and don’t settle for your first response.

This is a discovery exercise and our initial findings are more than likely an echo of a multitude of outside colonizing forces.

Pull yourself out of it all, like isolating an element from its compound.

Take yourself out of the context of who you're expected to be and dive deeply into the ocean of who you truly are.

This question is the beginning of true authenticity.

Now, as the picture of your truest essence begins to show herself, begin the gentle questioning

“What do I need?”

“What makes me feel most supported?”

“Where am I going?”

“What is bringing limitation?”

And finally...

“What do I want?“

See the now & future-you tools begin to present themselves in your minds eye.

No, it’s not too much to wish for and it’s not too much to believe in.

Even the small longings, churning in your soul like the birth of a new constellation.

Align yourself with these desires.

Feed them the life-force of your own words.

Write them down and put them somewhere you’ll see daily.

Think about how the manifestation of these desires would shift things.

Imagine them unfolding and unfurling.

You are seeding.

Planting desires into the lining of your inner most sacred.

These seeds will be fertilized and rooted throughout the waxing of the moon leading up to your full moon ritual.

FULL MOON

Full moon ritual.

Gather objects that symbolize your asking.

This only needs to “make sense” to you.

Remember, the power lies within your intention, not the object.

The object is simply a means to bringing matter and tangibility into your ritual.

You house the magic and the object is a symbol of your longing.

If you’re struggling to find a meaningful object writing a word on a piece of paper will suffice, as long as your true intention meets it.

Cleanse:

Cleanse your space with white sage or Palo Santo.

Create:

First, create your sacred space.

A place to focus and gather power for manifestation.

Call your quarters (North East South West).

If you so desire, light a candle in representation of each direction with your chosen object/symbol centered within their power and flame.

Meditate:

Clear your mind of chatter and distractions and begin to see your desires focus at a point-of-light and bring yourself into it.

It belongs to you and rightly represents you because of the new moon work we’ve already done.

Write:

A list of that to be left behind.

“I release myself from/to...”

“I untether myself from...”

“I forgive myself for...”

A list of that which you are calling forth.

“I gather power to...”

“I call into existence...”

“I accept the help of...”

Remember, this is your ritual and it should be rightly represented by the language that is all your own. *If the letting go feels particularly important, consider burning the first list In a safe vessel. Symbolism goes a long way in rites & rituals*

Speak:

Now, speak your desires.

This seems easy but sometimes we can find a block here.

If you struggle to speak your desires out loud, don’t worry.

A challenged solar plexus or throat chakra alignment can add some resistance to this step but willfully speaking these things will help exercise and restore their balance.

*Stones are useful for chakra alignment. Blue for throat and warm yellow for solar plexus*

Finishing Cleanse:

A salt and a sweep along with a salt bath is a lovely bookend to moon rite.

Gratitude:

End with gratitude for it all, both seen and not-yet seen.

Stones can be a powerful point-of-focus adding to the experience and potency of your ritual.

Clear Quartz to set our intentions and desires. Master healer. Balance.

Rose Quartz to amplify love impassion and charity. Strong healing properties.

Amethyst for balance and third eye clarity.

Labradorite for expansion, transformation and implementation of change.

Citrine to bring motivation, creativity and self expression. (Useful for solar plexus alignment)

Moonstone to gather the energy of the full moon within the conduit of water and consumed after.

Lapis to amplify expression, clarity, truth & purpose (useful for throat chakra alignment)
